June 21, 2019 – The Deal has awarded Locke Lord with its 2019 Deal of the Year distinction for the Firm’s role as national insurance regulatory counsel to CVS Health in its completed acquisition of Aetna. The honor was announced at the June 20 ceremony for The Deal Awards, which recognize leading lawyers, bankers, advisers and investors who are setting the trends in the industry.

Chicago Partners Jon BiasettiTim Farber and Steve Whitmer led the Locke Lord team that advised CVS Health, with additional assistance from Chicago Partners Randy HackBrian Hays and Paige Waters, Chicago Associate Sky Emison and Los Angeles Financial and Regulatory Specialist Norris Clark.

The transaction, which closed in November 2018, was valued at approximately $70 billion and brought together one of the nation’s largest pharmacy chains and one of the largest health insurers. According to the CVS Health press release, the combined company connects consumers with the powerful health resources of CVS Health in communities across the country and Aetna’s network of providers to help remove barriers to high-quality care and build lasting relationships with consumers, making it easier for consumers to access the information, resources and services they need to achieve their best health.

The Deal of the Year recognizes the most exemplary M&A transaction of the year, including public, private and sponsor-led transactions. The Deal Awards are presented annually by The Deal, a media outlet focused on the news, people and tactics surrounding mergers and acquisitions and all other changes in corporate control driving growth in a continually changing global market.
