The Connecticut Insurance Department issued an Order for Default Judgment (the “Order”) and a $5.9 million fine against a marketer of hole-in-one golf contests for engaging in the business of insurance without a license, falsely representing that it is authorized to engage in the business of insurance, and engaging in various unfair insurance practices.  According to the Order, Hole-in-One Worldwide and Golf Marketing Worldwide conducted an unauthorized insurance business in Connecticut by providing hole-in-one prize coverage for various charity golf tournaments in the state.  The Order further alleges that in several instances the companies failed and refused to effectuate fair and prompt payment of claims made by event sponsors.  Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal has also filed a lawsuit against Hole-in-One Worldwide and Golf Marketing Worldwide.
