New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced today that Adrienne Harris will step down as superintendent of the New York State Department of Financial Services (NYDFS), effective October 18. Following Harris’s departure, Hochul has appointed Kaitlin Asrow to serve as acting superintendent.

Harris, who was nominated by Hochul in 2021 and confirmed by the Senate in 2022, is the state’s longest-serving superintendent, having served for the last four years.

Asrow will assume the role of acting superintendent on October 18. Asrow, currently executive deputy superintendent of research and innovation, has served at NYDFS since 2021. She has overseen the regulation of virtual currency companies and led the department’s policy initiatives on innovation and financial inclusion. Her prior experience includes roles at the Federal Reserve System and the Financial Health Network.
