On April 29, 2016 it was announced that David Altmaier has been appointed as the new Insurance Commissioner for the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation and will succeed Kevin M. McCarty.

Altmaier has been employed by the Office since 2008 and has been serving as Deputy Commissioner for Property and Casualty Insurance. Throughout his career with the Office, Altmaier has held many roles including Chief Analyst and Director of Property & Casualty Financial Oversight.

Altmaier is well respected on a national level for his participation with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners as Chair of the Capital Adequacy Task Force, Creditor-Placed Insurance Model Act Review Working Group, and Group Calculation Working Group.
