Insurance premiums in Argentina rose 8.9% to 36.89 billion pesos ($9.35 billion) in the 12 months to the end of July, the insurance superintendency, or SSN, has reported. The total in July 2010 was 3.49 billion pesos ($885 million), an increase of 10.5% from June and 10.8% from July 2009.

The SSN said June’s total premium figure was dominated by property and casualty premiums of 2.84 billion pesos ($720 million), which were up 12% compared with June. Life insurance premiums were 579 million pesos ($147 million) and retirement insurance premiums were 69.7 million pesos ($17.6 million), up 2.1% and 30.5% respectively compared with the previous month.
