As previously reported here, the Third Parties (Rights Against Insurers) Bill was introduced into Parliament in November 2009. It is designed, in particular, to remedy the shortcomings of current legislation in protecting the rights of third party claimants against insurers of the liabilities of insolvent defendants.
The Bill completed its passage through the House of Lords on 1 March 2010 and continues to progress through the House of Commons. Following its Second Reading in the Commons on 10 March 2010, it was considered by a Public Bill Committee on 16 March 2010. The Committee will report back to the Commons on a date as yet to be confirmed. We will report here on any further developments in the passage of the Bill.
