Republican Mike Chaney recently defeated Democrat Gary Anderson in the race for the next Mississippi Insurance Commissioner.  According to press reports, Chaney is committed to rebuilding the Gulf Coast more than two years after Hurricane Katrina by bringing affordable insurance coverage to residents and businesses.  Chaney has served in the Mississippi House of Representatives and Senate since 1993 and was a member of the Senate Insurance Committee.  Anderson defeated current and longtime Insurance Commissioner George Dale in the Democratic primary.  Dale played a key in settling Katrina-related coverage litigations, and it remains to be seen if Chaney will play as big, and high-profile, a role.
