As of August 28, 2007, Missouri will become the latest state to allow the formation of captive insurance companies.  S.B. 215, introduced by Sen. John Loudon, R-Chesterfield and signed by Gov. Matt Blunt, is very similar to the captive insurer statutes of Vermont, currently the largest domestic domicile.  Missouri will require a minimum capital and surplus of $250,000 single-parent captives and $750,000 association captives.  Additionally, the annual premium tax will range from a minimum of $7,500 to a maximum $200,000.  To view the complete text of S.B. 215, please click here.
