Energy companies have developed new methods to unlock the enormous reserves of natural gas trapped in underground shale deposits. In recent years, hundreds of thousands of new wells and drilling rigs have sprouted across some of the most economically challenged sections of America. This presentation will describe the high pressure, high volume hydraulic fracturing process used to release natural gas, as well as the numerous and diverse environmental and health risks, and the potential related insurance and reinsurance implications associated with it.
