Connecticut Governor Dan Malloy announced today his appointment of Thomas Leonardi as the new Insurance Commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Insurance.  Leonardi currently serves as the Chairman and CEO of Northington Partners, Inc., an insurance specialty venture capital and investment banking firm, where he has worked with insurance companies on strategic, investment, capital raising and financial advisory matters.  He has also worked with management and boards of directors of companies that specialize in property and casualty reinsurance, workers’ compensation, alternative risk reinsurance and medical malpractice insurance.

Prior to working with Northington Partners, Inc., Leonardi served as Senior Vice President and Head of Investment Banking and Venture Capital Divisions at Conning & Company.  Before that, he was President of the insurance company subsidiaries of Beneficial Insurance Corporation, where he was responsible for the company’s property and casualty, life, reinsurance, marketing, litigation and international operations.
