As previously reported here, the Third Parties (Rights Against Insurers) Bill was introduced into Parliament in November 2009. It is designed, in particular, to remedy the shortcomings of current legislation in protecting the rights of third party claimants against insurers of the liabilities of insolvent defendants.

The Bill has completed its passage through the House of Lords following its Third Reading on 1 March 2010 and has now moved to the House of Commons for consideration. It was presented to the Commons on 1 March 2010 for its First Reading, at which no debate was held. The Bill has been referred to a Second Reading Committee on 9 March 2010. We will report here on any further developments in the passage of the Bill.
