On August 14, 2009, Governor Paterson announced the appointment of James J. Wrynn to serve as Superintendent of the New York State Insurance Department (the “Department”).  He will succeed Eric Dinallo who resigned from the Department on July 3 to accept a visiting professor position at New York University.

Mr. Wrynn has significant insurance experience.  He is the current Executive Director of the New York State Insurance Fund, and was also a founding partner in the law firm of MacKay, Wrynn & Brady LLP where he litigated a variety of insurance and claims issues.  Mr. Wrynn has also worked as a trial attorney at the law firm of McCormick, Dunne & Foley where his practice included professional malpractice, subrogation, property and casualty coverage disputes, liabilities and insurance.

Mr. Wrynn will assume his new position as Superintendent beginning August 20, pending confirmation by the state Senate.
