On July 8, 2009,  Substitute Senate Bill No. 894, An Act Requiring Disclosure of Automobile Liability Insurance Policy Limits Prior to the Filing of a Claim, was signed by Governor Jodi Rell as Public Act 240 (2009).  Effective October 1, 2009, and applicable to claims arising on or after that date, Public Act 09-240 requires automobile liability insurers to disclose coverage limits within thirty (30) days after receipt of a written request for disclosure from, or on behalf of, a person alleging bodily injury or death resulting from a motor vehicle collision involving a person covered under the policy.  The disclosure must be in writing and indicate all coverage the insurer provides to the insured, including any applicable umbrella or excess liability insurance.
