On June 26, 2009, Senate Bill 894, An Act Requiring Disclosure of Automobile Liability Insurance Policy Limits Prior to the Filing of a Claim (“SB 894”), was sent to the Connecticut Secretary of State for approval or veto by the Governor.  If signed into law, SB 894 will require automobile liability insurers to disclose coverage limits within thirty (30) days after receipt of a written request for disclosure from, or on behalf of, a person alleging bodily injury or death resulting from a motor vehicle collision involving a person covered under the policy.  The disclosure must be in writing and indicate all coverage the insurer provides to the insured, including any applicable umbrella or excess liability insurance.  If signed into law, it will apply to claims arising on or after October 1, 2009.
