On June 26, 2009, the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance (“DOBI”) issued a press release announcing the Senate confirmation of Douglas A. Wheeler as the new Director of the Division of Insurance. Wheeler, 37, is a graduate of Seton Hall University School of Law and worked for two law firms before joining the New Jersey Senate as Counsel in 1999. Between 2002 and 2006, Wheeler served as Assistant Commissioner in the Legislative and Regulatory Affairs section at the DOBI and was appointed Chief of Staff in 2005. Between 2006 and 2008, he was General Counsel at National Atlantic Holdings Corporation, a property and casualty insurance company in Freehold, New Jersey.
Wheeler will replace Don Bryan, who has served as the Division Director for 27 years and is retiring on June 30, 2009.
