As discussed here, a magnitude 7.1 earthquake occurred in Honduras on May 28, 2009.  According to reports in Central American newspapers, Honduran authorities have now estimated property losses from the earthquake at US$100 million, much of that concentrated in the nation’s largest port in Puerto Cortes, the Empresa Nacional Portuaria.  The port is reportedly operating at only 50% capacity and divers are currently conducting inspections are to determine if the earthquake damaged any underwater damage to dockage infrastructure.  The La Democracia bridge also reportedly suffered some US$20-25 million in damage as one of the bridge’s 12 sections collapsed and fell into the Ulua River.
