In response to the large number of accidents in Mexico in which drivers are found to lack automobile insurance coverage, a group of private organizations and governmental groups are prepared to present to the legislature a proposal for mandatory auto insurance coverage.  The group behind the bill includes the Asociacion Regiomontana de Comerciantes de Autos (ARCA) and the Instituto de Control Vehicular (ICV).

Arturo Rodriguez, president of ARCA, reportedly commented that the proposed bill is completed and should be presented in the coming days.  In response to concerns about potential affordability to average citizens, Mr. Rodriguez reportedly noted that the industry has addressed the issue and certain insurers offer third-party liability policies for less than one thousand pesos per year (approximately US $71).
