The National Flood Insurance Program (“NFIP”), which was set to expire this month, has been extended through September of this year as part of the omnibus appropriations bill signed into law by President Obama on March 11. The House of Representatives approved the extension as part of the larger appropriations bill on February 25, and the Senate approved the same bill on March 10. The NFIP was originally scheduled to expire at 11:59PM on March 6, 2009, but Congress passed a continuing resolution to extend funding to federal programs until March 11. As we have reported previously, the extension legislation does not contain provisions for windstorm coverage.
We will continue to report NFIP developments as they occur here on InsureReinsure.com.
