Maine Governor John E. Baldacci has nominated Mila Kofman as the Superintendent of the Maine Bureau of Insurance.  Kofman is an Assistant Research Professor at the Georgetown University Health Policy Institute where she has led studies on problems within the health care industry.  She served on the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (“NAIC”) Consumer Participation Board of Trustees from 2002 to 2006.  Kofman has also been an NAIC consumer representative since 2002 and in 2005, she was appointed co-editor of the Journal of Insurance Regulation.  From 1997 to 2001, she was a regulator at the U.S. Department of Labor, where she developed guidance for state and federal health care reforms and initiatives.  She also serves on the Board of URAC, a health care accreditation firm.

If confirmed by the Maine Legislature, Kofman will serve as the Maine Insurance Superintendent until April 2009.
