Following the Red Sox sweep of the Colorado Rockies, some 30,000 fans of the Boston Red Sox can now follow the lead of Alex Rodriguez and opt out of paying for their furniture purchased in the spring.  As recently discussed here, before the baseball season began, an undisclosed prize indemnification insurer wrote a policy for Massachusetts-based furniture retailer Jordan’s Furniture that entitled purchasers of certain furniture to a full refund if the Red Sox went on to win the World Series.  After last night’s 4-3 victory, an estimated 30,000 customers can thank the Red Sox players for their free furniture, in addition to Boston’s second World Series victory in four years.  Those Red Sox fans will likely be less thrilled, however, when spring training rolls around and the IRS comes looking for its cut of the furniture “windfall” in April 2008.
