On October 25, 2007, Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge will sponsor the first event of the U.S. chapter of the Reinsurance 40 and Under Group (“Reinsurance Under 40s”), a new and exciting organization open to all professionals in the reinsurance industry under the age of 40. The October 25 event, which will take place in New York, will be an opportunity for those interested in the organization to meet each other and create the structure of the Reinsurance Under 40s.
While the Reinsurance Under 40s is new to the United States, similar groups known as the “Under 35s” exist in both London and Bermuda. The Under 35’s Reinsurance Group in London was formed in 1972 and has quickly developed over the years to become a large and diverse group engaged in a variety of educational and social activities for young professionals in the reinsurance market. The Bermuda Under 35s was founded in May 2004 and operates in a similar manner.
The hope is that the U.S. Reinsurance Under 40s Group will become a forum for professionals in the reinsurance market to interact through social, educational and other networking opportunities. There will be no entrance fee at this event and it is open to anyone under the age of 40 who is engaged in or associated with the reinsurance business. Our intent is for the Reinsurance Under 40s to operate alongside the London and Bermuda groups, as well as other reinsurance organizations and committees in the United States.
One of the goals of the October 25th event is to get people involved and establish a team willing to help get this organization running. Attendees will have the opportunity to become founding members of the Reinsurance Under 40s. Interest in the group has been strong, attracting attendees and reinsurance professionals from not only the New York/Tri-State area, but across the country, indicating to the organizers that the time for a group like the Reinsurance Under 40s is right.
